This plant belongs to the orchid family, commonly known as the goat's ear orchid (or the veined ring, the black orchid...).

In Vietnam, this plant grows in Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Ninh Binh, Lam Dong, Nui Dinh - Ba Ria Vung Tau and is widely distributed in other tropical and subtropical regions. For example, in China, this orchid also appears in some forests in Hubei, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi... However, in this country, the goat's ear orchid is a relatively rare wild plant.

In particular, in China, the goat's ear orchid is also known by the popular name "serum ant". This name comes from the fact that the goat's ear orchid has a special effect in stopping bleeding. They are considered by the people here to be a rare medicinal plant with high medicinal value.

According to the book "Compilation of herbs commonly used in folk medicine" of China, the whole plant can be used as medicine. The goat's ear orchid has a bitter taste and a cool nature. It has the effect of cooling the blood, stopping bleeding, clearing heat, and detoxifying. Besides, you can use it to support the treatment of stomach heat, coughing up blood due to lung heat... and other symptoms such as hemorrhage, surgical bleeding, bleeding due to trauma, ulcers, venomous snake bites, bruises...
In the past in China, if someone was unfortunately scratched or bleeding while going to the forest, they would take a handful of serum nearby, crush it and apply it to the wound. The bleeding would stop within a few minutes, and the swelling would reduce within about a day.

Thanks to such wonderful uses, the goat ear orchid is very popular in the Chinese market. Therefore, this herb is exploited in very large quantities, leading to the wild Sal mint tendons becoming increasingly scarce. In addition, there are also very few Sal mint tendons grown artificially, making them a rare medicinal herb that is difficult to find. The price of fresh goat ear orchid tendons is about 30 - 40 NDT (98,000 - 130,000 VND) / kg, if dried, the finished product will be much more expensive, up to 200 NDT (653,000 VND) / kg. In Vietnam, Sal mint costs from 20 million to 30 million / kg depending on the quality
